Veterans & First responders Program

Veterans & First Responders Program Mission:

KSR connects Veterans & First Responders and their loved ones with the healing companionship of

animals in the beauty of the White Mountains.

Military service changes a person. You enter the training pipeline as a civilian, and come out the other side a Veteran. Everyone’s experience is different. Some have a tougher time than others. There may be some scars, either visible or invisible, or both. That doesn’t mean all Veterans or First Responders are broken. Often the scars are what makes a person strong. But this group may be hesitant to fully be themselves around others, so it can be good for them to get together from time to time. To share their common experiences in the language that’s most comfortable to them, which often hits the ears of civilians the wrong way.

Horses get Veterans. Horses don’t worry so much about the words that come out of a person’s mouth as the emotions that reside in the heart. You may be able to tell lies to a person, but you can’t get away with lying to a horse about what’s going on inside. Horses can communicate with Veterans without a single word being spoken. And Veterans & First Responders tend to be more doers than talkers, so horses really do speak their language.

Our horses are looking for Veterans & First Responders to spend time together. Through three-day retreats and one-day programs in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire, we allow space for this group and their loved ones to interact with each other and our rescue horses. The rescue works both ways.to create a better world for all. Through our programs and initiatives, we strive to make a positive impact on the world and to help those who need it the most.
